A plain-English overview of what Price Scout collects during the beta. Last updated September 7, 2026.
Information you provide
- Search terms you enter, such as product names.
- ZIP codes you enter so Price Scout can make the search more location-aware.
- Messages you send through contact channels.
- Account email, optional display name and default ZIP code, grocery lists, saved target alerts, and notification history when you choose to create an account.
- Email addresses you submit for The Scout Desk updates.
- Email addresses and product or ZIP preferences you submit for price or coverage alerts.
Information collected automatically
Price Scout may process basic technical information such as IP address, request time, browser details, and error logs. This helps keep the service working, limit abuse, and debug problems.
Public price comparisons do not require an account. Accounts are optional for saved lists and alerts. Passwords and login sessions are handled by Supabase Auth.
Service providers
Price Scout uses third-party services to run the site and search flow, including Vercel for hosting, Upstash Redis for caching and rate limiting, OpenAI for the source-backed search workflow, and Supabase for optional account authentication and saved account data.
Search terms and ZIP codes may be sent to those services when needed to operate the product.
How information is used
- To return price comparison results.
- To cache recent searches and avoid repeating the same lookup too often.
- To send The Scout Desk updates when you ask to join the email list.
- To save price and coverage alert waitlist requests.
- To synchronize your grocery lists and account preferences across signed-in devices and display matching target-price notifications in your inbox.
- To protect the service from heavy automated use.
- To troubleshoot errors and improve result quality.
Your account data
You can update your profile, lists, and alerts in your account. Account settings include permanent account deletion, which removes your account and its saved lists, alerts, and inbox history. Separate newsletter and anonymous alert waitlist subscriptions are not automatically linked to your account; contact us to request their removal.
When you explicitly compare a grocery list, Price Scout sends each unchecked item and the selected ZIP through the price-search providers needed to return results. Saved-list comparison queries are not added to public trending searches or public-search analytics and are not written as new shared search-cache entries.
Signing in uses session cookies. Account notification matches appear in the app; email and push delivery for these saved alerts are not enabled. Existing newsletter and waitlist requests remain separate.
